Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, issuing from sinister base a quarter sun in splendor Or. Attached below the shield a gold scroll inscribed "WE WILL TRY" in Black letters.

Symbolism
The shield is blue for Infantry. The rising sun is taken from the Seal of the State of New York, to which state the Regiment was historically allocated.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 389th Regiment Infantry, Organized Reserves on 26 March 1927. It was redesignated for the 389th (BCT), Army Reserve on 29 January 1962. The insignia was amended to add the motto on 19 June 1970. It was amended to change the description and revise the symbolism on 16 February 1996.

That for regiments and separate battalions of the Army Reserve: From a wreath Or and Azure the Lexington Minute Man Proper. The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H.H. Kitson, sculptor), stands on the Common in Lexington, Massachusetts.
